Many tour operators offer day or overnight trips by car or bus to Cairo…but beware! These usually involve departing around 3am and a tedious 6 hr drive each way. The route is across a monotonous desert landscape on a road not renowned for safety or the standard of driving.

It’s surprisingly cheap to fly to Cairo from Hurghada – provided you don’t leave booking to the last minute. Cairo is less than 60 minutes away by air and return flights with Egyptair can be secured for as little as 70GBP.

We have arranged a program to suit clients who wish to experience Egypt’s capital city in relative comfort.

Staying overnight in Cairo will greatly increase the number of attractions you can take in. For example, on day two, you could visit the giant necropolis of Sakkara containing the tombs of Egypt’s early pharaohs and nobles as well as the famous Step Pyramid. There are many other pyramids nearby. Memphis, the administrative capital of Egypt in ancient times, is only a short drive away……see the massive recumbent statue of Ramesses the Great.

Reasonably-priced hotels are available in Cairo. One of our favourites is the President Hotel in leafy Zamalek…ideally placed for seeing Cairo without getting caught up in its renowned traffic!!

Our two-day Cairo Tour costs 150GBP per car and you should budget 100GBP per person for hotel and dinner, lunches, entrance fees etc. The two days, for a couple, including flights would cost around 500GBP.

As with all HTS private tours, we work out with you beforehand the sort of itinerary you would enjoy most and can then give you a more accurate budget for the total cost of a one or two day visit to Cairo
